REVOLT Premiere: Borgore “Best”

Riding a wave of multi-genre hits, Borgore has hit us with a double dose of excellence in his new single “Best” alongside its official music video, as premiered here today. “Best” is what Borgore told us is “unexpected” — a sultry arrangement that drives left of an “expected” dubstep tone. The song marks an emotional and personal benchmark for the producer as it was written about the ending of a relationship.

In speaking with Borgore earlier this week, the multitalented artist gave insight to the parallel unraveling from a personal experience to one hell of a video’s plot twist.

Tell me a little about creating such a beautiful song and video spawned out of a breakup.

It doesn’t always have to be angry, but I think it’s just expressing feelings that everyone goes through after, you know, something like that. It’s depressing and… emotional. Everyone is expecting club bangers and energetic, happy music and sometimes you can’t and you’re not happy.

Once the track was completed, what was the idea discussed with the director (Karam Gill) about what you wanted to visually accomplish?

There was, you know, a lot of different ways to approach this video and we could have done the most obvious relationship pretense, but we wanted to do something a little more interesting. Without revealing the end of the video, I wanted it to have a “double twist.”

Stepping outside of the song and video, explain what we’re seeing as a fan of your work.

Well, you feel kind of bad for the wife and kids.

This song is a different direction musically for you. Does this signify something entirely new from what we’ve come to expect from Borgore?

I like to say “unexpected.” At the beginning of my career, it was very obvious that every track I put out was dubstep. Then I came out with some electro-house all of a sudden. I think it’s nice to keep saying “unexpected,” because I don’t think that now I will just release tracks like this because the next couple tracks are very dubstep.

So for 2017, will we hear new sounds and collaborations?

My next song is actually with Juicy J… it’s a nice mix of hip-hop and dubstep. It’s called “Magic Trick.” I’m doing something really interesting this weekend, but I can’t say too much without giving it away. But definitely some big collaborations.
